After our recent trip to Tubbataha, we visited Malapascua Island which is fairly remote from Cebu and takes a good part of a day to reach from Cebu. Here we stayed at the Tepanee hotel and did our dives with MTD (a fantastic dive shop ran and owned by locals on the island). We were there while the Typhoon Mawar (a category 5) was passing by, fortunately it did not pass right over the Philippines. However, the water was rough and not everywhere was reachable due to high winds and waves. We had a great time there regardless and highly recommend Malapascua for its huge variety of muck diving, reefs, and pelagic variety. Most importantly the Thresher Sharks here can be viewed at around 24-28 m deep which is very shallow for Thresher Sharks. They come to this particular shelf (a dive site called Kunad) to be cleaned.
